can the adidas stan smith be used for tennis?

Q: i recieved adidas stan smiths as a gift from my uncle and i was wondering if they can be used in the court? Will they break easily? Did people in the 80s use them as real tennis shoes or are they just some gimmick shoes slapped on with "stan smith" name?
A: I have played for the last two year with these shoes, and like them a lot. They hold up as well as various shoes that I have worn before. In fact, I recently bought two more pairs at an Adidas outlet store at a good price. When they first came out they were a high quality shoe, and as far as I can tell, still are. There are others that may be better, but more costly.
Additional: As long as you have them, try them and see.
Stan Smith are a reasonably appropriate shoe for tennis.
And yes originally they were the popular choice for tennis players of the time.
But now of course professionals can pay up to £300 for a pair.
And if you were playing at a relitively good level i would reccommend a more durable and strong shoe.

How can I clean my adidas stan smith shoes? Can i wash them?
Posted by H in Cleaning & Laundry @ Oct 04, 2008
Q: I think this happens to everyone: shoes stink after a long summer vacation.
I heard that washing shoes can remove their odor. I would try this but I'm afraid this might damage the material. I once had these leather shoes that got wet by accident and they just started deteriorating since then. The shoes justfell apart! I know that the adidas are a different story but still I'm afraid this happens to them.
Are there any other ways to clean them and remove the odor?
Please answer only if you have actually tried this.
A: If you are just wanting to get rid of the odor you can pour vinegar into the souls of the shoes. Then let them dry outside or on a register. I have done this & it works. Hope this helps.
