A: DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT an attorney. I AM NOT an appraiser - of anything.
Look in the phone book for a good dress shop or for someone who knows fashion and fashion accessories. Ask her/him if she/he can help you and explain the situation to her/him.
It may cost some money [I don’t know how much it would be. Its something you should ask about.] for an evaluation/appraisal, but isn’t it worth a small investment for some peace-of-mind? IF they are charging you, ask for the appraisal to be on their shop billhead or their personal letterhead. Ask her/him to put her/his credentials on the appraisal.
THEN if you decide to sell it, you have the appraisal [because when you sell it, I think you should give a copy of the appraisal with the purse.]. IF anyone comes back to you about selling counterfeit goods, you have that appraisal. That SHOULD be a tremendous help to you.
IF the person at the dress shop or that person who knows fashion or fashion accessories, isn’t able to help you or won’t help you, ask if she/he knows someone who can help you. Contact that person and explain the situation to that person. Then set-up an appointment and proceed as I suggested.
I never had anyone ask me a Q like this before. I REALLY “had to put on my thinking cap” for this one. I don’t know how good [or bad] my answer is for your Q.
Thank you for asking your question. I enjoyed taking the time to answer your question. You did a great job - not only for your information, but for every other person interested in reading my answer. Thanks to everyone for reading my answer.
I wish you well!

You can authenticate it by going to ebay and searching their "guides". Looking inside for a leather tag with a serial number. there may even be a handwritten number from the dept store or boutique. check the quality of craftsmanship. if it's jaquard print, do the g's line up? is the leather of quality? take it from there, but the guides on ebay really help.

How can I safely clean my Gucci purse?
Posted by Tiffany in Cleaning & Laundry @ Jan 31, 2008
Q: I've had my Gucci purse for a while now and it kind of looks like it needs a cleaning. Its made of the typical Gucci printed, canvassy material. How should I go about cleaning it? I don't to risk ruining it!
A: if it is washable, wash it in a cold water wash by hand...repeat as necessary
