How are Zara Men Suits compared to Banana Republic?

Q: Are they good? I need to buy a suit preferably a navy color one. How much do they generally cost for the whole suit? Is the quality okay? I was told to buy from Zara b/c its my first suit and i should not spend that much money. I am a 5th year college student though so I am not that young.
I want to get it at BR but it is very pricey. People say the suits at zara fits better than at Banana. Your thoughts please?
A: For the price that you pay, Zara suits are ok in terms of quality and material, but I think the Banana Republic ones are generally better.
When you go shopping, bear in mind that because it's Spring (with Summer just around the corner), some of the suits available in BR and Zara stores right now are "summer" suits, made with a cotton and/or linen blend. Since this will be your first suit, I would suggest that you stick with one that is made of a lightweight wool with a full lining, which you will be able to wear year-round. Navy or charcoal grey would be a good choice as your first suit.
In my experience, the suits from Zara are cut in an Italian style, which means that the jackets tend to be slightly shorter, and the waist pinches in more (an hourglass shape). BR suits tend to lean more towards a British cut (what BR calls their Tailored Fit) or American cut (their Modern Fit), which are generally a little looser.
The suit that will fit you best will depend on your body type. Generally speaking, men who are tall and slim will look best in Italian cuts. If you work out a lot and have broad shoulders, or if you have a bit of weight on you, a slightly roomier cut may be better. Ultimately, since you're just starting out your professional wardrobe, the best suit for you will be the one that you feel the most comfortable wearing. Go to your local Zara and Banana Republic, pick out a few suits and try them on before you decide on a purchase.
A few last words of advice: no matter what suit you end up buying, since you're buying off the rack, you will probably need to get some alterations made by a tailor--the sleeves or trouser cuffs might be too long. It'll cost you maybe $20-50, but if you can spare the money, it really is worth it. You'll look and feel more professional.
